Used ATV Parts:
What to consider before buying.

Used ATV parts are available from a wide array of suppliers. This doesn't mean that they are always a good deal. Before buying used parts, you need to consider a couple of things.

Firstly, we all consider cost. If we can save a good chunk of change on the same item, then why not? This is sometimes a good idea--but not always. Certain items are a great fit for buying used, such as cosmetic items like fenders.

These types of things are like buying a used fender for your car. If you can find a good one that hasn't been broken or beat up, then a used part can save you some cash. You'll probably have to put up with some scratches and scrapes, but that is a small deal to save money, especially if you consider that you'll probably add to the existing scratches the first time you ride.

One of the biggest things to keep in mind when buying used ATV parts is your safety. The vast number of parts on your ATV are critical for this. Such things as brakes, tires, and personal riding gear are essential to keeping you safe on the trail. If you save a few bucks on these items, then you really need to make sure that you aren't being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

A tire with a slow leak can leave you stranded miles from anywhere and really ruin your fun. A rapid blowout when you're flying down the trail is also a real quick way to have a bad day.

So once you decide if you can safely get the parts you need used, then you have to find a source. There are a ton of used ATV parts distributors, but they are not all the same.

Pricing is one of your biggest concerns, but used parts can vary from slightly used to completely worn out. Make sure that you know what you're buying. If you can get any type of return policy (note: this is not always possible), it can give you a day or two to make sure the part will work.

Shipping is another consideration. If you buy parts sight unseen, and have them shipped to you, then you really need to make sure you have a way to either make sure it's right before you buy, or be able to return it without a problem.

These are just a few things to keep in mind when buying used parts. We are currently looking for good used parts suppliers that we will provide links to when we sort them out.
