Motorcycle relays are designed to reduce the load on old switches and wires. The basic design of a relay is to bypass the old switchgear and go directly to the battery.

When you wire in a motorcycle relay what you are doing is bypassing the old switch gear. The switch sends the electrical signal via the new wire, bypassing the old stuff.

Most new cruisers have a large accessory draw. The list of accessories are long and varied. In addition to bike components such as seat warmers and warm grips, there are things like helmet radios and vest warmers.

Most older bikes also suffer from motorcycle relay issues. The bulk of bikes are not used as much as they should be. The electrical system suffers.

The biggest relay issue is with the headlight. The headlight has a good draw on the system. One of the first things to consider is the heat of a hotter light.

It is a good idea to look closely at the heat tolerance of the headlight casing.

It is also a good idea to look over your electrical system. The first thing to look at is the overall condition of your ground strap.

Check out the condition of the grounds on your bike, including the battery as well as the ignition/electrical/ignition.

The next thing to go through is the integrity and quality of the wiring of your bike. Most modern bikes do not experience any types of wire degradation.

The bikes that are a couple of years old are a different story. It is usually a good idea to replace the bike wires and other wire components to keep maximum efficiency.
