Injury Attorney: Who is going to represent you best?

An injury attorney, accident attorney, or injury lawyer is not something you want to think about when you get on your bike. Unfortunately, there is always the possibility of a mishap that might require an attorney.

There are a lot of injury attorneys out there that claim to be accident specialists. The problem is that many are not that well versed in the ins-and-outs of representing clients. There are several things to consider when selecting an accident attorney in order to ensure your best recovery.

Firstly, don't always go with the first "ambulance chaser" that shows up in your hospital room. Typically, if you have an accident there will be a police report filed that will detail the incident. This will provide a solid written account that can, and will, be used in any court proceedings. With this in mind, there is no reason to rush into any agreement with an attorney before you are cool, calm, and collected after recovering from any physical injuries.

You also need to consider an attorney's previous record. An attorney is like any other business--they will develop a case history that will indicate their past performance. If an attorney is not willing to share references of past clients, then be wary. Imagine hiring a contractor to build your home without references--not a good idea.

You also need to be wary of an accident attorney that promises you the world. Typically, in most accidents there is partial blame on both parties--contributory negligence. It is important to realize that you will probably not receive the total reward that you are asking for. A good attorney will be open about this from the beginning and will work with you to prove legitimate damages.

Research is another indicator of a good attorney. Having a staff that will go to the accident scene and conduct their own research will typically help your case. Taking photos and measurements will help make a more convincing case in court. Conducting interviews with witnesses and people who live locally is also a good way to bolster your case.

These are just a few things to consider when selecting an injury lawyer. Be sure that you feel comfortable with them because it will be a very important decision to help rebuild your life.
