ATV Lift Kit: Don't go overboard

An ATV lift kit is a great way to really make your machine not only look better, but also perform better.

Ready to buy? You'll find the best deals on an ATV lift kit here. If you want to learn more before you buy, then read on!

There are a lot of different kits on the market, so here are a few tips to consider when buying. Lift kits provide some additional clearance--usually a couple of inches--but they also have their issues. As with lift kits for trucks, it will change your steering and drive shaft geometry.

When the machine is lifted, it makes the distances longer in terms of connecting the axle from the transmission to the drive wheel. So it makes sense that you will be putting extra stress on your axle joints. This is usually not a problem, but they might wear out a little quicker. The same goes for the control joints in your steering.

Usually, you won't notice a big difference if you select a good quality kit that doesn't really jack up the machine too much. Most kits allow for a couple of inches of lift. These should have a minimum impact.

The rear springs are a little bit of a different story. Aftermarket springs are usually wound tighter than the originals. This provides a couple of advantages. Firstly, they are more resistant to sagging. Over time, all springs will eventually sag, but the tighter and thicker the spring, the longer it will resist this.

The other advantage of new rear springs is that they will typically allow you to carry heavier loads. With the springs being stronger, they will not give as much and will keep the machine better suspended.

Overall a new, good quality lift kit is a good way to get more enjoyment and work out of your ATV.
